Hotel Gyms: An Extension of Travelers’ Healthy Lifestyle

In the past five years, I have seen many hotel chains putting more money in renovating their workout facilities (e.g. the Sheraton Hotel at Syracuse University and the Courtyard by Marriott in Syracuse). They are responding to travelers’ demand of having nice gyms in hotels. Some travelers may even choose a hotel over the others because of the hotel’s state-of-the-art workout facility.

This Fox News video takes us to tour some hotels with magnificent gyms and pools. Which one is your favorite? For what reason? How important does a hotel’s workout facility mean to you when you compare it with other factors such as price, location, cleanliness, security, and service?

  2. This gym looks great, but my problem is that during business trip, after day full of meetings I am glad when I will fall into the bed. Of course situation changes when you are there as tourist. But also in this case would location or services priority...

    1. I agree with you, Lorne. I, myself, for example, love to work out in a hotel gym when I am going to a conference or traveling for leisure. When I am meeting with an important client or doing a job interview, I do not hit the gym unless I know for sure I am free of the day after finishing all other important businesses.

Unfortunately, hotels are welcoming many guests with diverse needs these days. It seems that they have no choice but to have the highest standards possible and address the different needs of customers in order to win in tough competitions. Who knows, maybe today I don't care about hotel gyms, but the next day, I want to use it.

To me, hotel gyms or pools are on top of my selection criteria. Cleanliness (brand standards), service, location, and then price are more important to me than the workout facilities. Most of the time, however, I can expect what I will get, including the workout facility, based on my knowledge of a brand.

  3. To find pet friendly hotels, a great destination is 1 Click Pet Friendly Hotels and Resorts. 1 Click Pet Hotels prides itself on keeping accurate, up to date listings of pet-friendly accommodations across the nation. Simply click on the state you are traveling through for a complete listing by city of hotels, motels and resorts that will take dogs, cats and other pets. Especially handy is the fee column which lets you see right up front what the deposit or extra charge will be for the pet, if any, at each establishment. This column will also note of the fee is refundable.

Luxury vs. Millennials and Their Technology: The Ritz-Carlton (By Julia Shorr)

Embodying the finest luxury experience, The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, LLC has been established since 1983. In 1998, Marriott International purchased the brand offering it more opportunity for growth while being independently owned and operated. They are known for their enhanced service level as the motto states, “Ladies and Gentlemen serving Ladies and Gentlemen”. The luxury brand now carries 97 hotels and resorts internationally and is attempting to keep the aspects of luxury while keeping up with the trends of the technologically improving generations. The Varying Demographics of the Target Market The Ritz-Carlton’s typical target market includes: business executives, corporate, leisure travelers, typically middle-aged persons and elders, and families from the upper and upper-middle class section of society .   This infers a large range of types of travelers in which all are similar in that they are not opposed to spending extra for the luxurious ambiance. However, with

Is It OK for Hotel Staff to Wear Piercings and Tattoos?

Time has changed. I see more and more college students wearing piercings and tattoos nowadays, but is it OK for hotel staff to wear piercings and tattoos? The answer is “no, no, no.” According a report at USAToday.com, customers across the board do not want to see any hotel workers with pierced eyebrow, pierced tongue, tattooed arm, or nose ring. Some may argue that tattooed and pierced workers may seem more acceptable in edgy boutique hotels as compared to the big franchised hotels, but the survey results did not find any differences among a variety of lodging products. Many respondents believe people who wear visible tattoos and piercings are taking a high risk of their professional lives. If you stay in a hotel, do you mind being served by tattooed and/or pierced staff? What if you are the one who makes the hiring decision?
